HAND TUFTED RUGS
Tufted rugs are created by stretching a backing cloth over a frame were yarn is pushed through using a tufting machine with a hollow needle to create loops. Once off the frame they are hand sheared & carved to create pile & definition.
This technique has a long history dating back to medieval times and possibly back to the ancient Egyptians who it is said used hollow bones from birds as a punch needle.
